Darren Gough

Former England fast bowler, Cricket

Darren Gough is an England cricketing legend. He is England’s leading One Day International wicket taker having overtaken Ian Botham and became the first Englishman to take 200 wickets in the shorter format of the game.

He has enjoyed success at Test match level since he broke into the England side with his finest moment coming in 1999 when he became the first Englishman to take a hat-trick in an Ashes Test since 1899.

Darren recently returned to his home county Yorkshire to take over as team captain from the start of the 2007 domestic season.

He has enjoyed success off the pitch with his own radio show on BBC Radio Five Live and acting as a regular columnist for the Metro daily newspaper.

Darren has also appeared on a number of TV shows not least of which was his star turn on Strictly Come Dancing in 2006 when he won the competition.

Along with former Prime Minister Tony Blair, Darren has also helped promote Barclays Spaces for Sport, a £30m investment to create sustainable sports facilities in communities across the UK. It is the single biggest investment ever in grassroots sport by a company in the UK.
