The shortlist of nominations are below with the winner chosen by the Square Mile Sport Awards judging panel of sporting legends.

Sue Day, Rugby Union (KPMG)

Sue Day

As England's highest try scorer ever in women's rugby union, top try scorer in both international rugby competition and the women's World Cups, Day captained the England Women's Rugby Team through the 2006/07 season to their most successful 6 Nations campaign.

Nick Brothers, Hockey (Deutsche Bank)

Brothers represented England in both the Champions Challenge and European Cup in 2007, as well as winning the National League in the 2006/07 season for club side Reading, in a closely fought battle that played out, and was won, on the last day of the season.

Sam Waley Cohen, Horse Racing, (Louis Dreyfus Commodities)

After winning four races against professional jockeys in 2007, Sam qualified for the Grand National, commuting from Brazil, Africa and India for the races. He secured the mount Libertine for the showpiece event at Aintree and came in 5th place at the Grand National.

Andrew Weir, Athletics (Fidelity International)

Despite the cancellation of the mass participation field of the 2007 Chicago Marathon due to the heat, the elite race went ahead, with Weir holding up through the blistering conditions to complete the event in 2:33:52 - the first British runner over 40 years old to finish the race, and the 30th runner overall to complete this gruelling event.

Phil Wicks, Athletics (Legal & General)

Wicks has had a successful 2007, coming home as the fastest individual competitor in the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay; winning the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge, and representing GB at the World Cross-Country Championships. Wicks currently covers between 110-120 miles per week in training, and ultimately aims to run the marathon at the 2012 Olympics.
