Square Mile Sport Awards - Vote Now!
The Square Mile Sport City Sportsperson of the Year award honours the person who has achieved the highest level of sporting excellence during the past 12 months whilst maintaining a full time job within the Square Mile. The shortlist of nominations are below with the winner chosen by the Square Mile Sport Awards judging panel of sporting legends.
Dion Harrison,
Triathlon (Lombard AM)
Dion is an extremely talented athlete who only took up triathlon three years ago. He competes against the best full-time triathletes in the world, while maintaining a full time job at Lombard AM, and won the male sub-2:30 race at the Mazda London Triathlon, in addition to the UK Triathlon League. Harrison was crowned age group World Champion at the ITU Long Distance World Championships as part of team GB, and has just won the amateur athlete of the year at the British Triathlon Awards.
Adam Cocks, Rugby Union (Meridian Investment)
Adam is a consultant at Meridian Investment, as well as serving with the Honorary Artillery Company. Adam was serving in Afghanistan when his routine patrol vehicle was hit by a landmine not once, but twice. Adam survived but suffered a broken leg and multiple fractures to his knee as a result of the mine strike and has been receiving on-going treatment at Headley Court since the incident.
Prior to sustaining his injuries, Adam was an avid rugby player and fan who joined forces with former England International Simon Halliday, and Times writer Mark Souster to conceive the idea of a fundraising event. Hence the ‘Help for Heroes' rugby match was born, raising over £1 million for the support of wounded servicemen and women.
Rob Moore, Hockey (CMC Markets)
Rob is a Junior Business Analyst at CMC Markets who has successfully combining a career with intense involvement with the Great Britain Men's Hockey squad, qualifying for the Olympics through the Chile Qualifying Tournament in March 2008 and going on to achieve 5th place in Beijing – Britain's men's best finish since the 1988 Gold in Seoul. Rob was one of only three squad members who played in Athens in 2004 and was a key member of the 2008 squad.
Danny Nobbs, Shot Put (Norwich Union)
Danny is a Sponsorship Consultant at Norwich Union, and represents the Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland team in the seated shot put. He has been in the form of his life this year, setting a new personal best which smashed his own British record, as well as representing Team GB at the Paralympics Games in Beijing where his result propelled him to 5th in the world in his class.
Katy Roberts, Hockey (Nomura)
Katy is a qualified solicitor who has combined her role as legal counsel on the equities trading floor at Lehman Brothers with a sporting career playing as one of Great Britain's women's hockey goalkeepers. Katy played a key part in the England squad who obtained Olympic qualification in Manchester in August 2007. She featured in all of the Olympic training and preparation through 2008, and was the reserve goalkeeper in Beijing. Katy is now working as legal counsel for Nomura.
